Picture of the month May 2010

Picture taken at Steenokkerzeel on April 17, 2010.

Between April 15-20 2010 European air traffic was seriously disrupted by the volcanic ash of an Icelandic volcano called Eyjafjallajökul. Belgian airspace was closed in this period although some restricted VFR flight were still allowed. For Brussels Airport the impact was quite big: at the end of Easter holiday more than one hundred thousand passengers were stranded. The weather around that period was quite fair: for example on April 17, not a single contrail was spotted in furthermore complete silence around the airport. But at the Brussels tower, it was still duty as usual although not much work at hand. Under these surrealistic conditions this shot could be made.
