Picture of the month July 2010

Picture taken at Steenokkerzeel on June 8, 2010.

The A380 has become a rather common sight overhead Belgium with currently around three daily rotations from/to Heathrow of companies like Emirates (see MP of January 2009), Qantas and Singapore. But the unthinkable happened: on June 8 2010 an Airbus A380 touched down on Belgian soil. A brand new airframe from Lufthansa made a test flight to Brussels Airport to check its capability of handling this big bird. Everything went smooth nevertheless, due to too low pax demand, we won't see the largest commercial pax plane soon on a regular link to the capital of Europe. But the test made clear that Brussels Airport is ready for possible diversions from our surrounding big airports.
