Weather picture of the month December 2008

Picture taken at Steenokkerzeel on November 4 2008.

Due to sudden lowering of pressure, condensation of invisible water vapor may take place. When an aircraft crosses an almost saturated layer, this can result in the formation of a cloud: usually visible as vortices behind wingtips, flaps or propellers and sometimes above the entire wing or at the engine inlets..

The picture was taken just after the fog had been lifted and shows vortices behind the flaps and condensation above the wing. More pictures of this day: pic1 & pic2.
