1970 Location: King Boudewijn base (South Pole) Photo: collection Skystef Description: this airframe was the first "Otter'" used by the Belgian-Netherlands Antarctic Expedition. It was registered on November 5 1959 and from the late sixties onwards it was to be replaced by a second 'Otter' OO-HAD. However this airframe crashed on February 9 1970 and ultimate it was decided to rebuild the first airframe with some parts of the crashbird. But soon the expeditions to the South Pole ceased altogether and on March 3 1972 it was cancelled from the register. |
